Just One Healthy Habit: Final Week Guided Relaxation

Stress is a part of life, but how we deal with stress is what really counts in terms of our health. I can tell when I'm not handling it well because it shows itself in my health. Insomnia, digestive changes, muscle pain, migraines and restless fatigue are my most common issues when I'm not handling stress well. There doesn't seem to be a one-size-fits-all solution to chronic stress, but over my life I've slowly acquired new ways of helping my body to calm down when I'm faced with life challenges. Some of those ways include: deep breathing, creativity, talking things out, and working on ensuring that my nutrition is supporting my body through the stress.

The holidays are wonderful, but they can also be stressful, even if it's good stress. In this short time between Christmas and New Years when a lot of things in life slow down a bit, I'm going to focus on using guided imagery to make the most out of this break from everyday stresses. I'm going to set aside 20-30 minutes each day to listen to some guided relation recordings that I have. The goal is to get my body out of fight-or-flight mode and into a state of relaxation, if only for a short time each day.

Also, I need to report on last weeks goal. I did do well at saying no to some things that I otherwise would have absentmindedly ate, like certain desserts and candy that I know are never as good as I imagine they will be. Unfortunately, there were also a lot of things that seemed totally worth indulging in. After the weekend, my body is really craving a little less sugar and a few more veggies. There are still a few more family gatherings to survive though...
